Hey readers! First of all, what is social health and patience? These two are the characteristics needed for a human being to shine in his life. Social health is more than just the prevention of mental illness and social problems. Being socially healthy means an increased degree of happiness including a sense of belonging and concern for others. Patience is the ability to endure difficult circumstances. Patience may involve perseverance in the face of delay; tolerance of provocation without responding in disrespect/anger; or forbearance when under strain, especially when faced with longer-term difficulties. Some great people like Buddha, Mahatma Gandhi and Vivekananda succeeded in a memorable life because of these two qualities in their character.
There are lots of things we need to learn from these legends:
- Most of us loose control and behave erratically when this happens. But Mahatma Gandhi followed non-violence and achieved what he wanted. We must remember that sometimes things go wrong but we should not lose patience.
- Promotion of social equality and social justice helped Buddhism to cross the frontiers of Indian sub-continent and became a world religion. In the field of education Buddhism tried to make education practical, action oriented and geared towards social welfare.
- “The great secret of true success, of true happiness, is this: the man or woman who asks for no return, the perfectly unselfish person, is the most successful.” – Vivekananda.
Social health can be developed by building up new friendships, doing yoga (self care), and having small talks with the ones you feel comfortable with. Patience allows us to suspend judgment long enough to make informed decisions, thus paving the path to a happy and peaceful life. By being mindful of the things making you impatient and by relaxing ourselves by physical exercise can help us stay calm and patient.
